Canyon Ranch Resorts offer two comprehensive health and wellness programs as well as several health management packages. The Life Enhancement Program, in Tucson, is for guests with a specific medical concern or who want to learn more about healthy living. This one-week program focuses on self-discovery, preventive and supportive care, and the development of positive lifestyle habits.

The Executive Health Program is a new paradigm in preventive medicine, bringing unequaled depth and value to the annual physical check-up to guide guests towards optimal health through prevention and continuous health improvement. This program provides executives with a full health assessment and practical strategies developed from an integrative perspective that incorporates nutrition, fitness, lifestyle and prevention with considerations for heredity and preference.

In September, Canyon Ranch and Cleveland Clinic, one of the top academic medical research institutions in the country, launched the collaborative Cleveland Clinic-Canyon Ranch Executive Health Program, which integrates the best practices of traditional medicine with the latest advancements in preventive wellness. By adding a close relationship with the renowned Cleveland Clinic and its over 1,400 physicians, specialists and researchers, the Executive Health Program now covers the full spectrum of healthcare, from evaluation and treatment, to advanced preventive strategies and continuous health improvement.

In October, Richard H. Carmona, M.D., M.P.H., F.A.C.S., the 17th Surgeon General of the United States joined Canyon Ranch as vice chairman, chief executive officer of Canyon Ranch’s Health division and president of the nonprofit Canyon Ranch Institute. As CEO for Canyon Ranch Health, Dr. Carmona joins Corporate Medical Director Mark Liponis, M.D., and the existing integrative medicine team on major projects and initiatives, such as the comprehensive collaboration and joint ventures with Cleveland Clinic.

Dr. Carmona said, “The challenge we face today is not in gathering more information or waiting for more science. Instead, we must translate the best science into steps that people can understand and use to improve their health. We must change from being disease-oriented to being health-oriented, and focus attention on preventing health problems, not fixing them after they’ve happened.”

It was within this context that Canyon Ranch elected in December 2006 to offer the Biophysical250 health assessment to guests at its Tucson and Lenox resorts, and to future residents of the Canyon Ranch Living communities. “The Canyon Ranch experience is all about taking an in-depth look at your health in a very holistic way,” says Mark Liponis, M.D., Canyon Ranch corporate medical director. “We use the latest tests and tools to help guests reach their health potential. We are proud to be able to offer a test as sophisticated as Biophysical250, which can provide an advance warning system not previously available in a single test. Armed with this new information, we can improve the way we look at prevention, while providing our guests with the most personalized roadmap to health promotion possible.” Prior to making the Biophysical250 available to guests, more than 20 Canyon Ranch physicians and nurses had the assessment in order to fully understand the procedure and test results.
