Dr. Alan Moore Joins Biophysical Corporation as Director of Clinical Pathology
AUSTIN, Texas, August 29, 2005 — Biophysical Corporation today announced the appointment of Dr. Alan T. Moore as director of clinical pathology research for the company.
Dr. Moore previously was associated with Clinical Pathology Associates in Austin for more than 20 years, serving as president for five years. He also was a director of Clinical Pathology Laboratories, the largest privately owned clinical lab in Texas. In addition he has held several leadership positions with Seton Medical Center in Austin, including chief of the medical staff, medical director of the clinical laboratory and as a pathologist for the Seton Cardiac Transplant Program.
"We are pleased to welcome Dr. Moore to our team and value his expertise in establishing Biophysical's leadership role in the emerging field of biomarker research," said Mark Chandler, chief executive officer of Biophysical. "His extensive knowledge and ongoing research into the biologic profiles of specific health conditions will enable us to propel personal health care to a new level."
Board-certified by the American Board of Pathology in anatomic pathology, clinical pathology and hematopathology, Dr. Moore has also served as president of the Texas Society of Pathologists. He graduated from the University of Texas with honors and attended UT Southwestern Medical School, where he was a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha honor society. As a student, Dr. Moore received the prestigious Stembridge Award for excellence in the study of pathology. He completed his residency training in anatomic and clinical pathology followed by a hematopathology fellowship at Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas.
"In my 25 years of practicing pathology, I have come to believe that the early detection of disease is the key to effective therapy. After evaluating the Biophysical250, it was obvious that this approach provides the most thorough assessment of an individual's personal health," said Dr. Moore.
Dr. Moore joins Biophysical's president and Chief Medical Officer, Dr. George Rodgers, former president of Austin Heart cardiology group, to lead the Biophysical medical team. Earlier this year Biophysical began marketing a personal health assessment program called Biophysical250, which includes the measurement of more than 250 biochemical markers in the blood that can signal the presymptomatic presence of many diseases and medical conditions. The assessment analyzes blood components whose affect on health is broadly recognized, as well as those recognized only by clinical specialists. In addition, Biophysical250 provides a baseline enabling individuals and their physicians to monitor changes and trends in blood chemistry over time.
To further support awareness of the role of blood-based biomarkers in disease detection and prevention, Biophysical Corporation has formed the Center for Biomarker Research as an affiliated, non-profit organization. Dr. Moore serves as chairman of the Center. The Center will initially serve as a source of references for published clinical studies on biomarkers. In the future, it is expected the Center will sponsor educational programs for physicians, as well as support and fund relevant research.
