What is the BiophysicalCheck?
BiophysicalCheck is a comprehensive, convenient blood test that monitors blood-based biomarkers for existing disease, developing disease and risk factors for developing disease. It does this for a broad spectrum of medical conditions, from more common ones such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes and cancer to uncommon or difficult to diagnose conditions such as celiac disease and autoimmune disease.
Who is the BiophysicalCheck for?
BiophysicalCheck is designed for people who want to take a proactive approach to their health, before symptoms arrive and permanent health consequences set in. As most diseases develop, indications show up in the blood before the person starts experiencing symptoms. Early recognition of these changes gives physicians and their patients a powerful tool in avoiding or minimizing the impact of disease.
Will my insurance pay for this?
Health plans generally do not pay for elective blood evaluation (beyond some very basic tests). However, if your results indicate something that requires further evaluation and testing, there is a good chance that your plan will pay for the follow-up. Your plan administrator will offer you the best information for your situation. These tests are qualified expenses for those who have a Flexible Spending Account (FSA) or a Health Savings Account (HSA).
Can I take BiophysicalCheck if I'm not feeling well?
You can take BiophysicalCheck when you are not feeling well; however, Biophysical does not recommend taking BiophysicalCheck on a day that you feel acutely sick (for example if you have a cold or the flu). BiophysicalCheck is designed to help you and your physician to discover conditions that may be impacting your health, so, if you normally don't feel well, BiophysicalCheck may be able to help you learn the reasons why. Some people want an even more in-depth evaluation. For those people, Biophysical offers the Biophysical250.
How does BiophysicalCheck fit into the Biophysical Health program?
The BiophysicalCheck is designed to work with BiophysicalCA/CV. Initially BiophysicalCheck works to discover existing conditions and emerging health risks. It also provides baseline values for cardiovascular and cancer related biomarkers. Once the baseline evaluation is complete, a person uses the BiophysicalCA/CV each year thereafter. The BiophysicalCA/CV follows the cardiovascular and cancer related biomarkers levels. Cardiovascular risk factors are identified and through treatment and lifestyle modifications, these risk factors can be treated or decreased. Cancer related biomarkers are followed, from year to year, watching for abrupt changes that may indicate a potential problem. Of course, levels fluctuate on a daily basis and it's the profound, rather than the slight, elevations that are concerning. Used along with the standard cancer screening techniques such as mammography, colonoscopy, PSA testing and PAP smears, BiophysicalCA/CV can be a powerful tool in the approach to cancer detection.
What kinds of cancer-related biomarkers does the BiophysicalCheck evaluate?
Biomarkers that are associated with cancer are not always specific to any one particular type. Elevations may indicate any number of different types of cancer, but in general, they are most commonly linked to breast, colon, liver, pancreatic, ovarian, prostate, small cell lung cancer and testicular cancer.
What if I have an abnormal result?
Biophysical recommends that you always take your results to your physician. All abnormal results should be evaluated by your physician who can then determine the appropriate course of action. Your physician will determine the appropriate treatment plan based on your specific results. For some, simply rechecking the biomarker in a few months will be sufficient. For others it will depend on the level of elevation, personal and family history and whether or not there are any symptoms. Profound elevations will require more intensive evaluation and monitoring, while many will choose to manage slight elevations with a “wait and retest†monitoring approach.
Can the BiophysicalCheck evaluate children?
The BiophysicalCheck is not designed for those under 17 years of age. In fact, for many biomarkers there are no established normal values for pediatric patients. If a child's physician feels that a certain panel of tests is warranted, we would of course comply with the physician's request.
How do I order my BiophysicalCheck?
You can request your BiophysicalCheck by phone (800 532 7092), or on the web at www.biophysicalcorp.com, or through one of our partners. Please visit our website at www.biophysicalcorp.com to learn more.
How will I get my report and what will it look like?
Your report will be sent to you via email in a password protected file. Your report includes an in-depth explanation of your results. You will also receive a listing of all of your laboratory results. Your report is in a format that allows you to easily compare your results from year to year. We encourage you to share your report with your personal physician as the information contained in the report will help to determine the best treatment plan.
* Your Biophysical assessment report is intended to be used for health information only. Your report is not diagnostic of any disease or condition and should not be used to self-diagnose or self treat. We encourage every individual to share the results with their personal physician. Only a physician can interpret these results for you, recommend additional testing, recommend treatment and lifestyle changes and/or use the information as a baseline from which future test results can be compared.
No employee of The Biophysical Corporation (Biophysical) will provide individuals who purchase a Biophysical health assessment with a diagnosis of any disease or health condition or any advice regarding follow-up. Biophysical will not recommend any specific follow-up, further evaluation, therapy or treatment based on Biophysical health assessment results.
Communication with medical professionals employed by Biophysical about Biophysical health assessments or the results of these assessments do not establish a physician-patient relationship.
Out-of-range results do not necessarily indicate a health problem, just as in-range results do not indicate the absence of disease. Please consult with our physician if you are experiencing any symptoms or have any health concerns.
Biophysical assessments do not diagnose any diseases or health conditions and have not been cleared or approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
