About BiophysicalSex&Energy

Questions

What is BiophysicalSex&Energy?

BiophysicalSex&Energy focuses on conditions that may put your body out of balance and cause low energy. Metabolic problems such as diabetes, insulin resistance and thyroid imbalance are explored. Sex hormones are evaluated to look for causes of low energy, low libido, mood changes and fertility problems. The liver and kidney are critical to overall health so biomarkers for these organs are measured. Finally, nutritional issues, such as iron and vitamin status are reviewed for deficiencies. BiophysicalSex &Energy measures a full complement of energy related biomarkers to help your physician guide you back to a more natural state of energy.

Who is BiophysicalSex&Energy for?

We see this as useful for anyone who feels, day in and day out, that they’ve lost their zeal and vigor. While it is easy to dismiss this as just another part of modern life, too often there may be a medical reason that can be overlooked. We strive to make it affordable for you and your physician to have the tools you need to confront this malady.

Back to Questions

Will my insurance pay for this?

Health plans generally do not pay for this type of preventive screening. However, if you are found to have something abnormal that requires further evaluation and testing, there is a good chance your plan will then pay for the follow-up. Your plan administrator will offer you the best information for your situation.

Back to Questions

Can I take the BiophysicalSex&Energy if I’m not feeling well?

Unlike some of our other panels, it is expected that most folks who want the BiophysicalSex&Energy will not "feel well", because they are tired. However, we recommend that if you are feeling acutely sick (such as from a head cold, stomach virus, etc.) you wait for your normal baseline to return before getting this test.

Back to Questions

Will the BiophysicalSex&Energy tell me if I have cancer or heart disease?

The BiophysicalSex&Energy focuses on those things that can drain your energy. While it is true that could include cancer or heart disease, we do not test for those biomarkers in this panel. If those are areas of concern to you, we have other panels to look more deeply into markers for cancer and heart disease.

Back to Questions

Should I be tested more than once?

Not necessarily. Biophysical offers an annual program that uses Biophysical250, BiophysicalCheck and BiophysicalCA/CV (our cancer and cardiovascular product). BiophysicalSex&Energy is generally used to help you and your physician to determine medical reasons for your fatigue. If your physician determines that you have a condition such as diabetes or thyroid disease, you may want to take BiophysicalSex&Energy again to determine the disease status and effectiveness of your treatment. Because each person’s body changes over time and new conditions pop up, you may want to repeat BiophysicalSex&Energy at some point in the future.

Back to Questions

What if I have an abnormal result?

All abnormal results should be evaluated by a physician. The physician can determine the appropriate course of action. For some, simply rechecking the biomarker in a few months will be sufficient. For others it will depend on the level of elevation, personal and family history and whether or not there are any other accompanying symptoms. Profound elevations will require more intensive evaluation and monitoring, while many will choose to manage slight elevations with a "wait and see" monitoring approach.

Back to Questions

How are results produced and verified?

Biophysical uses Rules-Based Medicine’s bead-based, multiplexed assays to analyze a small blood sample. This innovative technology was developed for clinical researchers and the pharmaceutical industry. It allows for simultaneous evaluation of multiple biomarkers, "reading" each sample of blood hundreds of times. Rules-Based Medicine participates in laboratory quality programs and is CLIA approved.

Back to Questions

Can the BiophysicalSex&Energy evaluate children?

The BiophysicalSex&Energy is not designed for those under 17 years of age. In fact, for many biomarkers there are no established normal values for pediatric patients. If a child’s physician feels that a certain panel of tests is warranted, we would of course comply with the physician’s request.
