Overview
The BiophysicalCA/CV is a tool for people who want to enhance their personal health surveillance program for cancer and cardiovascular disease. Many people want to be proactive in their approach to these diseases so they make healthy lifestyle choices, participate in routine screening exams, (like mammography and colonoscopy), have routine cholesterol checks and are attentive to changes that may happen in their bodies. But some people want more.
One component of the BiophysicalCA/CV is a unique panel of biomarkers that are commonly associated with certain types of cancer: colon, liver, lung (small cell lung cancer), breast, ovarian, testicular, prostate, pancreatic, and others. In general, minor elevations usually indicate a non-cancerous condition, while major elevations or rapid increases are more indicative of cancer.
In addition, the BiophysicalCA/CV includes "secondary" biomarkers: molecules indicative of the inflammation and blood vessel growth that are frequently found in the presence of cancer.
We stress that this panel is not a definitive "test for cancer". Rather, it is to be used as part of an overall wellness program, and all results should be reviewed with your physician.
The other component of the BiophysicalCA/CV is a comprehensive evaluation of your unique cholesterol/lipid profile. Cardiologists now understand that just measuring cholesterol, HDL, and LDL provide only a partial picture of cardiovascular risk. The cholesterol/lipid profile completes this picture, providing a thorough analysis of the many factors that can affect your susceptibility to heart attack and stroke.
BiophysicialCA/CV is an Annual Testing Program
BiophysicalCA/CV is most informative when you have established your personal biomarker baseline with your first year's test. Some people naturally run "high" or "low" for many of these markers (especially with cancer-associated biomarkers), so much more importance is attached to the year–to–year change in levels than to any single measurement. A dramatic increase in any cancer biomarker from one year to the next warrants further medical evaluation. The cholesterol/lipid test highlights physiological risk factors for cardiovascular disease. Physicians can treat these risk factors through various medications and lifestyle changes. BiophysicalCA/CV can be repeated to check that treatment is effectively managing these risk factors.
